The first fossil at the Peking Man site in Zhoukoudian was discovered in the 1920s. Various fossils of prehistoric humans were unearthed in the next decade. Their age is estimated to be between 500,000 and 300,000 years old. Unfortunately the original fossils were lost during the Japanese invasion of China. However it is possible to see casts made from the fossils and learn the history of this great discovery.
