Lhasa - Shigatse - Gyantse - Tsetang

DAY01:

LHASA
Fly to Lhasa. Check into your hotel and relax in the afternoon so that your body adjusts to the altitude of 3490 metres. Spend the night in Lhasa.

DAY02:

LHASA
Visit the Potala Palace, the impressive seat of the country’s former leaders, the Dalai Lamas, from the seventh century until 1959. Visit Sera Monastery, founded in 1419 by a disciple of Tsong Khapa. It is the largest monastery in Tibet with 600 monks in residence. Visit Norbulinkha Palace, the Dalai Lama’s Summer Palace set among the largest public park in Tibet. Spend the night in Lhasa.

DAY03:

LHASA
Visit Drepung Monastery, the first residence of the Dalai Lamas and once the largest monastery in Tibet. Visit the Jokhang temple in central Lhasa and marvel at the integration of Tibetan, Indian and Nepali architectural designs. Follow pilgrims along the time-honoured path around the Barkhor market square. Spend the night in Lhasa.

DAY04:

LHASA – SHIGATSE
Discover the wide open valleys and high mountains on the drive to Tibet’s second largest town, Shigaste. Visit the Tashilunpo Monastery. It is the seat of the second highest ranking lama in Tibet after the Dalai Lama, known as the Panchen Lama. View a massive statute of Maitreya Buddha which is more than 26 metres high. Spend the night in Shigatse which has an altitude of 3,836 metres.

DAY05:

SHIGATSE - GYANTSE
Take a short trip to Gyantse. Wander the Palkchode Monastery, founded in 1418, which is famous for its splendid Stupa which features 10,000 images of Buddha. Spend the night in Gyantse which has an altitude of 4,040 metres.

DAY06:

GYANTSE - TSETANG
Drive into the mountains and reach a height of 4,441 metres to view the blue waters of Lake Yamdrok. It is one of the four holy lakes of Tibet and pilgrims can be seen prostrating themselves on the ground around its perimeter. Visit Tibet’s first monastery at Samye. Spend the night in Tsetang at an altitude of 3,100 metres.

DAY07:

TSETANG
Explore the town of Tsetang, the ancient capital of Tibet. One of three cave to the east of the town is said to be the birthplace of the Tibetan people, who resulted from the mating of a monkey and a beautiful cannibal ogress. Visit Yumbulagang, the first imperial palace. Spend the night in Tsetang.

DAY08:

TSETANG - LHASA
A short drive to Lhasa will leave you free time for last minute shopping before your transfer to the airport for a flight to your next destination.
