Bangkok - Phisanulok - Sukhothai - Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai

DAY01:

BANGKOK
Arrive in Bangkok. Walk down to the local night market to sample Thai street food. Spend the night in Bangkok.

DAY02:

BANGKOK
Visit the picturesque Damnoen Saduak floating market aboard motorised canoes. Visit the Royal Palace, the Emerald Buddha Temple and Temple of the Reclining Buddha. Eat a Thai style dinner while watching traditional dances. Spend the night in Bangkok.

DAY03:

BANGKOK - PHITSANULOK
You can take a day trip to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand. Founded in 1350, the city grew quickly so that by 1700 it had become the largest city in the world with a total of 1 million residents. The temples and Buddhist statutes are mostly in ruins but the massive site gives you an idea of the city’s scale. Visit the Khmer-era temple ruins of Lopburi. Watch out for mischievous monkeys. Spend the night in Phitsanulok.

DAY04:

PHISANULOK - SUKHOTHAI - CHIANG RAI
In Phisanulok, explore the Prabouddhajinaraj Wat housing a beautiful statue of Buddha dating from the thirteenth century. Then travel to the first capital of the Siam empire, Sukhothai. You can ride a bicycle around the UNESCO World Heritage site which features buildings dating back to when Sukhothai was the centre of the kingdom from 1238 to 1438. Drive to Chiang Rai and stop in pineapple fields where you can enjoy fresh fruit. Spend the night in Chiang Rai.

DAY05:

CHIANG RAI - GOLDEN TRIANGLE - CHIANG MAI
Prepare yourself for a day of new cultural experiences as you meet the Yao and Akha hill tribe villagers. Continue to the Golden Triangle and the Mekong River, a natural border between Thailand, Laos and Burma. Take a canoe ride on the Mae Kok River to see a Karen tribal village. Spend the night in Chiang Mai.

DAY06:

CHIANG MAI
Take a morning excursion to one of the most finely-crafted temples in Thailand, Doi Suthep. The temple is located at 1,053 metres above sea level and dominates the plain of the Chiang Mai Basin. You have a panoramic view of the valley on a clear day. On the way back to the city, visit the artisan district of Sankamphaeng, 13 kilometres east of Chiang Mai. You will meet skilled craftsman making and selling silk cloth, umbrellas, precious stone jewellery, lacquerware and wood products. Spend the night in Chiang Mai.

DAY07:

CHIANG MAI
Leave for an elephant training camp located in the mountains north of Chiang Mai. This is one of the best schools in Southeast Asia. Watch elephants working and playing during their bath in this reserve which seeks to maintain high quality care for the animals. Ride on an elephant for about 50 minutes to the ethnic village of Baan Tong Luang. Continue to an orchid farm where over 150 species of orchids to amaze you with their beauty. Take a bicycle tour of the main temples of the old city including Wat Phra Singh, built in the Lanna or Northern style and Wat Chedi Luang, which housed the country’s most famous statute, the Emerald Buddha (now in Bangkok) during the 15th century. Spend the night in Chiang Mai.

DAY08:

CHIANG MAI - BANGKOK
Transfer to the airport for a flight to Bangkok and connect with an international flight to your next destination.
