Phnom Penh - Kratie - Koh Trong - Irrawaddy - Koh Pdao - Mon......

DAY01:

PHNOM PENH
Arrive in Phnom Penh and stroll the city streets. Spend the night in Phnom Penh.

DAY02:

PHNOM PENH
Take the whole day to explore the city including the Silver Pagoda where five tons of silver were used to make 5,000 floor tiles and more than 2,000 diamonds decorate a gold Buddha. Learn about Cambodia’s ancient artwork at the National Museum and more recent modern history at the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school turned into a torture centre under the Khmer Rouge regime. In the evening, cruise the Mekong River while enjoying the sunset. Enjoy cocktails and dinner on board the boat. Spend the night in Phnom Penh.

DAY03:

PHNOM PENH - KRATIE
Set out to drive to Kratie. On the way, stop to discover the picturesque village of Skuon whose signature dish is Fried Spiders. Visit Wat Nokor Kohear, a 11th century Hindu temple. Arrive in Kratie, a riverside town which is the most popular place in Cambodia to see the Irrawaddy Dolphins. Spend the night in Kratie.

DAY04:

KRATIE - KOH TRONG
Take a local boat to Koh Trong, a beautiful, little sandbank island in the Mekong River. Meet local villagers and share lunch with them. Cycle around the island and see the traditional houses. Spend the night in Koh Trong.

DAY05:

KOH TRONG - IRRAWADDY - KOH PDAO
Take a morning excursion to see the endangered freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins. This rare species of dolphins only lives in Cambodia, Burma and Laos. Visit to the Mekong Turtle Conservation Center, located in the grounds of the historic 100 Pillar Pagoda. Take a long-tail boat ride for about 45 minutes to a village on Koh Pdao Island. Spend the night in Koh Pdao.

DAY06:

KOH PDAO - KRATIE - MONDULKIRI
Tour the island of Koh Pdao, meeting local villagers and taking a bike ride around the island. Return to Kratie and drive to the hill region of Mondulkiri. Spend the night in Mondulkiri.

DAY07:

MONDULKIRI
Spend the morning learning about the ethnic groups living in the region by observing village life. In the afternoon, ride on an elephant through traditional villages. Spend the night in Mondulkiri.

DAY08:

MONDULKIRI - KOH NHEK - BANLUNG
Depart for the province of Ratanakiri. Known for its natural beauty and diverse ethnic minorities with their own unique cultures and languages. Explore the capital of Ratanakiri, Banlung, which is named the Red City for its omnipresent red dust. Spend the night in Banlung.

DAY09:

BANLUNG - VUEN SAI - BANLUNG
Visit the village of Vuen Sai on the San River which features distinct Khmer, Lao and Chinese communities. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the river. Visit the villages of the Tampoun people which carve totems for their dead. In the afternoon, visit the district of the Kroeung people who continue the custom of building houses standing on long bamboo poles for bachelors. When the young man finds a wife, the house is destroyed. Spend the night in Banlung.

DAY10:

BANLUNG - STUNG TRENG - PREAH VIHEA
Leave the region of Ratanakiri and travel into the mountainous province of Preah Vihea. The province’s northern boundary is the Cambodia-Thai border. Spend the night in Preah Vihea.

DAY11:

PREAH VIHEA - SIEM REAP
Visit the World Heritage listed temple, Prasat Preah Vihear, perched on the top of a mountain and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. This controversial temple is claimed by both Thailand and Cambodia. Return to Siem Reap. Spend the night in Siem Reap.

DAY12:

SIEM REAP
Depart for the visit of the city of Angkor Thom which includes the Bayon temple built in the 12th century by Cambodia’s most celebrated King, Jayavarman VII. Stand on the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King where royal ceremonies were performed. See Baphuon Temple, which was reconstructed from 300,000 stone pieces after the Civil War. After lunch, see two former palaces and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Preah Pithu temple complex. Take in a dinner show featuring Cambodian traditional dances. Spend the night in Siem Reap.

DAY13:

SIEM REAP
Take excursion to Banteay Srei, the site of Angkor’s most famous stone carving. Known as the Citadel of Women, the small temple features finely carved pink sandstone which is said to be so delicate that it could only have been carved by a woman’s hand. The afternoon is entirely devoted to visit the prestigious Angkor Wat, the largest and most famous monument in the country. The temple has been in continuous use since it was built in the 12th century. Spend the night in Siem Reap.

DAY14:

SIEM REAP
Begin your excursion to Tonle Sap Lake with ox cart ride through a traditional Khmer village to reach the pier. Take a boat trip among the floating and stilted fishing villages. Return to Siem Reap. Transfer to the airport for a flight to your next destination.
