DAY 1:

YANGON
Arrive in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar, known as Rangoon during colonial times. Spend the night in Yangon.

DAY 2:

YANGON
Visit the beautiful Kandawgyi Lake with a view of the spectacular Karaweik Palace. Continue to the Botataung Pagoda, located in the port of Yangon, where you can admire many ancient artifacts and Buddhist relics. Then travel around the city centre and its many colonial buildings which are still in use today. The streets are filled with colorful street markets selling many new and old objects. Visit the colossal Chaukhatkyi Reclining Buddha and the Golden Shwedagon Pagoda, perhaps the finest Asian complex of pagodas. Spend the night in Yangon.

DAY 3:

YANGON - KYAIKHTIYO
Depart for the town of Kyaikhtiyo in Mon State, the site of the famous Golden Rock. This large rock is painted a golden colour and seems to remain delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff near the top of the mountain. The belief is that it is kept in balance by Buddha's hair and this is one of the most revered Buddhist shrines in the country. Enjoy the view from the top of the rock, which includes a spectacular view of the mountain. Spend the night in Kyaikhtiyo.

DAY 4:

KYAIKHTIYO - BAGO - YANGON
Enjoy the beautiful sunrise over Kyaikhtiyo before returning to Yangon. On the way, stop at Bago, the first capital of the Mon kingdom. Visit, the largest pagoda in the country: the Golden God temple, Shwemadaw Pagoda. Spend the night in Yangon.

DAY 5:

YANGON - HEHO - PINDAYA – KALAW
Take a 35 minute flight to Heho. Drive to Pindaya which is known for its large limestone caves filled with over 8,000 images of Buddha. After lunch, travel 50 kilometres to the western edge of the Shan plateau and the town of Kalaw. Soak up the atmosphere from the colonial era in this calm and peaceful former British hill station. Spend the night in Kalaw.

DAY 6:

KALAW - GREEN HILL VALLEY - KALAW
Take a day trip to the elephant camp at Green Hill Valley, a project aimed at protecting local ecology, the elephants and traditions of the local population. Stroll along the river to see the elephants bathing and being fed. One can also see butterflies, birds and orchids. It may also be possible to take a short ride on an elephant, depending on weather conditions and the health of elephants. After lunch, you may be invited to plant trees from the nursery and support the replanting of trees in the forest. Spend the night in Kalaw.

DAY 7:

KALAW - INLE
Visit the remarkable Inle Lake. This large shallow lake offers visitors a beautiful landscape surrounded by mountains and is home to the Intha ethnic group known for their floating gardens. There are many migratory birds plus over 20 species of snails and nine species of fish not found anywhere else in the world. Discover the village of Inpawkhone where houses are built on stilts. Visit artisans including silk weavers, blacksmiths, cigar manufacturers and boat makers. Spend the night near Inle Lake.

DAY 8:

INLE - INDAIN - INLE
Visit a local market and interesting 17th century pagodas at Indain. Board a boat to reach the village of Ywama where you can see traditional papermaking and goldsmiths at work. Spend the night in Inle.

DAY 9:

HEHO – MANDALAY - PYIN OO LWIN
Transfer to the airport for your 35 minute flight to Mandalay. Drive up to the former British station of Pyin Oo Lwin, formerly known as Maymyo. It is located about 67 kilometres north-east of Mandalay on the top of a winding road at an altitude of 1070 metres, where there is a cool and pleasant climate. As the former summer capital of British Burma, the town retains much of the style of a mountain resort. One major attraction is the Kandawgyi Gardens which covers about 160 hectares and was modelled on Kew Gardens when it was built in 1915. Other attractions include the lively morning market and churches dating from colonial times. Spend the night in Pyin Oo Lwin.

DAY 10:

PYIN OO LWIN - HSIPAW
Board a local train for a scenic trip on the Goteik Viaduct. Completed in 1901, it was then the longest line train on a viaduct in the world. The bridge was designed and created by the Pennsylvania Steel Company in the United States and sent to Myanmar. The bridge is 689 metres long from one end to the other and is situated 102 metres above the water. After crossing the bridge, transfer to a car and drive about an hour to Hsipaw, one of the oldest and most important cities of the Shan people. Visit the 12th century Bawgyo Shan Pagoda and watch the sunset from the top of the mountain. Spend the night in Hsipaw.

DAY 11:

HSIPAW - MANDALAY
Take a scenic river journey up the Dokhtawady River. Along the way, discover rural life by observing plantations of pineapples, papayas and oranges. In the afternoon, stop and visit a typical Shan village to see traditional houses and their gardens. Return to Hsipaw and set off for Mandalay, the last royal capital of the Burmese kingdom. Spend the night in Mandalay.

DAY 12:

MANDALAY - AMARAPURA - INWA - SAGAING - MANDALAY
Take an excursion to the ancient royal capital of Amarapura and visit the active Mahagandayon Monastery and walk on the U Bein teak bridge that connects the two banks of Lake Tauntaman. Discover the techniques for weaving silk and cotton for which Mandalay is famous. Visit the small island of Inwa, founded in 1364, which remained a royal capital for almost 400 years. Inwa is accessible via a short ferry ride and there are no cars on the island. Take a horse-drawn carriage down the tree-lined paths to see the walls of the old palace. Spend the night in Mandalay.

DAY 13:

MANDALAY - MIGUN - MANDALAY
Board a private boat for a ride on the Irrawaddy river to the ruins of the Mingun Pagoda. See the Mingun Bell, which is considered the largest hanging bell in the world. In the afternoon, discover Mandalay City and the venerated Mahamuni Pagoda with its seated Buddha covered in gold leaf. Visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda, hosting what is known as the biggest book of the world because of its 729 stone slabs containing Buddhist scriptures. If time permits, walk at the summit of Mandalay Hill for a panoramic view of the city and the Irrawaddy River. Spend the night in Mandalay.

DAY 14:

MANDALAY - BAGAN
After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your one hour and 20 minute flight to Bagan. Be amazed by more than 2,000 pagodas dotted along the legendary Irrawaddy River. Discover the vibrant local market of Nyaung Oo and some of the most typical pagodas in Bagan, including Wetkyi-in-Gubyaukgyi, a cave temple of the thirteenth century with fine murals. Ananda Pagoda, one of the pagodas most revered Myanmar's, which has 4 great Buddhas standing. Visit Sulamani Temple built by King Narapatisithu, the more modern Dhammayangyi Temple and the highest temple in Bagan, Thatbyinnyu Temple. Learn about thanaka, a fragrant white paste that Burmese women use as a beauty treatment and to protect themselves from the sun. At sunset, climb a temple offering the best view of the valley. Spend the night in Bagan.

DAY 15:

BAGAN - SALE - MT. POPA - BAGAN
Drive one and a half hours to Sale. Visit a museum dedicated to Myanmar writer and dramatist U Ponnya and the Man lacquer pagoda built in 1300. Then we continue our drive to Bagan, stopping in route to visit Mount Popa, a strange-shaped hill which emerged after a major earthquake in 442 BC. Mount Popa is said to be home to divine spirits and is known for its panoramic views of the region. Along the way you will discover how palm sugar is produced. Spend the night in Bagan.

DAY 16:

BAGAN - YANGON
Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Yangon then board an international flight to your next destination.
