BEIJING - PINGYAO
Take the four-hour express train to Pingyao. A small town fortified with 72 towers, Pingyao was a military and commercial centre for 2,000 years. It has managed to preserve its traditional houses built of wood and bricks. Walk atop the City Wall, visit the Confucius Temple, the Old Town Hall and the first Bank of China. Return at night to admire the red lanterns hung outside shops and temples. Spend the night in Datong.

DAY02:

PINGYAO - BEIJING
Take an excursion outside the city to the Wang Family Residence, the home of wealthy merchants from the Qing Dynasty. Walk through 123 courtyards and more than 1000 houses to appreciate the true size of this amazing location chosen by Zhang Yimou for his film Farewell My Concubine. Be surprised when visiting the walled village of Zhangbi and the Shuanglin Buddhist Temple. The temple houses beautiful figurines and clay statues painted in the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties. Return to Beijing by fast train.
